Transforming the app's home experience was an ongoing UX project I had the privilege of leading as a UX/UI Designer at Carepoint. As a UX/UI Designer, I was responsible for research, ideation, prototyping, and user testing. This project allowed me to leverage my skills in user research, mobile app design, and interaction design. Collaboration within a diverse team was pivotal in achieving our objectives. In this case study, you'll gain insights into our creative process, design iterations, and the evolution of the home screen. I'll lead you through the process of improving our app's home screen and creating a user-centered solution that has reshaped our product into a more engaging and purpose-driven experience.
The challenge we set out to address was the minimal user engagement with our app. This issue held great significance as it had a direct impact on our business's financial performance. Our data revealed that approximately 80% of users stopped using the app shortly after onboarding, thus effecting our ability to attract new partners. From a user-centered standpoint, this problem indicated that our users were encountering obstacles and a lack of purpose immediately following their initial interaction with our app. Resolving this issue was not solely about bolstering company revenue but also about enhancing the overall user experience and fostering meaningful engagement between our partners and users.
We initiated the process by conducting interviews and surveys to gain insights into user needs and pain points. Once we had a clearer understanding of their preferences, we analyzed other rewards-oriented apps to identify trends, best practices, and opportunities for differentiation. Our aim was to incorporate familiar traits from popular rewards programs while tailoring them to the health and wellness space. Informed by our research and interviews, we identified the central issue: users lacked guidance after onboarding, leading to uncertainty about what to do next.
Our cross-functional team brainstormed solutions to provide direction to users after onboarding and enhance product discoverability. I translated these ideas into initial sketches and wireframes to visualize the layout and information architecture. We continually refined our design concepts through iterations based on team feedback and usability tests.
In the design and prototyping stage, we introduced a new information architecture to create a more intuitive app navigation. We also implemented our revamped branding style guide to enhance the aesthetic appeal. Interactive prototypes allowed us to validate the proposed design. Collaborative efforts with the development team ensured accurate implementation, with design assets and documentation effectively supporting this process.
User feedback played a pivotal role throughout the process, starting from initial testing and continuing through post-implementation adjustments. These refinements addressed issues that might have otherwise been overlooked, culminating in a final design that effectively catered to both user needs and the overarching business objectives, benefiting both our users and partners.
Transforming the app's home screen had a primary objective: to provide users with a clear sense of direction and purpose during their initial app experience. After conducting comprehensive research and strategic planning, we devised a solution that established intuitive pathways for users while minimizing points of friction that had previously hindered engagement. This translated into a streamlined and user-friendly navigation system that enabled users to effortlessly access the app's key features.
Recognizing that the journey toward a healthier lifestyle is a personal one, we placed great emphasis on personalization. By integrating user preferences and behavior, we were able to offer tailored recommendations, encouraging users to explore and engage with our partner network. This approach not only increased the time users spent within the app but also exposed them to our valuable partners. To enhance the interactive aspect of the app, we introduced engaging gamification elements such as challenges, tasks, and plans. These elements not only heightened the overall enjoyment of using the app but also encouraged users to return frequently. In addition, we implemented real-time notifications to keep users well-informed about updates, reminders, new partners, and personalized recommendations. These notifications served as a prompt for users to revisit the app regularly and stay engaged in their journey to a healthier lifestyle.
Not only were initial challenges addressed, but we managed to reinvigorate the app, making it more engaging and valuable to users. The app redesign not only succeeded in boosting user engagement but also in cultivating a positive and vibrant user community. Performance metrics showed significant improvements, with a 55% increase in user engagement among existing users. This project not only streamlined the user experience but also had a positive impact on our bottom line, injecting purpose into the app and enhancing user engagement.
